He was a painter and wallpaper hanger

Kirmon Michael Vanover, 55, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his home in Nancy, KY.

He as born in Louisville, Jefferson, Co., KY on Friday February 10, 1956. He was the son of the late Cirmon and Shirley Likens Vanover. He was 55 years, and 3 months, and 30 days at the time of his death.

Services for W.R. (Dutton) Beard (1922-2011)
Visitation will be after 5pmET/4pmCT, Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon AV, Campbellsville, KY.
The funeral service will be at 12pm noon ET/11amCT, Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, by Rev. Ron Young. Entombment will be in Brookside Mauseleum, W. Main ST, Campbellsville, KY.


W. R. "Dutton" Beard, Campbellsville, KY(1922 - 2011)

Willie Robert Beard, known by his many friends as "W. R." or his nickname "Dutton", was born on October 24, 1922 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, Kentucky at the home of his paternal grandparents. His parents, Winfrey and Edith Chelf Beard, had three children, W. R. who was the oldest, Dean Clayton, who currently lives in Brentwood, TN and a younger brother, Louis Beard, who preceded him in death April 7, 1970. His paternal grandparents were Joseph and Lucy Russell Beard who were farmers in Taylor County. His maternal grandparents were Lee Roy and Nettie Spurling Chelf who lived in the Knifley community of Adair County, Kentucky where Lee was the postmaster and owned the general store. W. R. was a life long resident of Campbellsville, Kentucky until the last few years of his convalescence when he lived in Lexington, Kentucky.

Rose Marie Murrell, Metcalfe Co., KY (d. June 8, 2011)

She was a member of a highly regarded Metcalfe Co. family. She and her husband Murrell operated Murrell's Men's Wear on the Square in Edmonton for many years. She was the daughter of the late Dr. E.S. Dunham and the late Dora Davis Dunham and the sister of Elizabeth Webb of Columbia, KY. She was a member of the Edmonton Worship Center

Rose Marie Murrell age 72 of Edmonton died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Barren County Health Care in Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 2pmCT, Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT, Saturday, June 11, 2011, and after 9amCT, Sunday at the funeral home.

Way in high gear for good cause: Funding was problem getting nice entrance sign for Columbia/Adair County's jewel of a baseball facility, Joe Johnson Little League Park ; now, with the very welcome initiative of Mr. Richard Phelps, that problem should be solved in short order. Several months prior to the situation that led to this discussion, Barney Taylor had already undertaken the idea of a new sign for the park. He took it upon himself to obtain sketches, drafts and quotes for a sign to be erected at the Doc Walker Road entrance of the park.

Michael (Bull) Cowan, Adair Co., KY (1949-2011)

He was a member of a significantly large, respected Adair County family. He was the owner of M & C Lawn Mower Repair and a driver for A-1 Performance.

Michael "Bull" Cowan, 61, of Columbia, KY, died a sudden, tragic death on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jamie Bryant and Bro. Donald Stotts officiating. Burial will be in Bearwallow Cemetery, 5080 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 4pmCT, Friday, June 10, 2011.

Inaugural Camp Energy gets 28 rising 4th-8th Graders energized

COLUMBIA, KY - About 28 rising fourth- through eighth-graders were energized this week at the inaugural Camp Energy. Held at Adair County High School and sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson College Energy and Technology Career Academy, the free two-day camp taught students how to make a solar panel, how to measure the wind using an anemometer, how to make biodiesel and other lessons in energy sustainability.

In addition to Adair County schools and the LWC Energy Technology Career Academy, Camp Energy was also sponsored by Green River Rural Electric Cooperative, the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence, and the National Energy Education Development Project. -Duane Bonifer
