Ballot received, read, read again, marked and mailed

2020-06-12 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
When you ask to vote Absentee on the state website, GoVoteKy.com, you bypass the application process, are verified online as a registered voter, and will receive your ballot in the mail from the County Clerk's office. Unpacking the big envelope received from the County Clerk, I found (1) the instructions, (2) the ballot, (3) the inside envelope (the brown one), and (4) the return-to-Clerk envelope.

I read the instructions - twice - to make sure I didn’t mess up because I’ve been told that an error in processing will make the vote null and void.

There are three steps to complete your Absentee vote. First, study and properly mark/color in your choices on the ballot. Second, sign and seal the (brown) envelope after placing your ballot inside it. And then the third step is placing the brown envelope in the outside envelope and mailing postage-free to the county clerk, or delivering it to the Clerk's office.

Or, you can put on your mask, stay six feet apart from others and vote in person in the Courthouse Annex any day now. Voting is in progress six days a week. Clicking 'read more' takes you to Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer's reminder of the hours and days they are open.
