JIM - Christmas Wish List - 22 Dec 1948

2017-12-22 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by JIM.
1948 was a mixed year. A peace time draft was re-instituted, and toward the end of the year, a recession started which would last well into 1949. Still, the economy was much improved from the pre-war years, and many thousands who had served in the war were taking (or already had taken) advantage of the GI Bill to better their lives. That year, the December 22 edition of the News carried two dozen seasonal greetings from area businesses in lieu of advertisements for goods and services. The one from the News itself graced the top center space on page one. - JIM
