Historic Adair Courthouse: a dream message, a letter, a contest

2017-08-28 - Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Let's take the Governor's challenge, Adair County. He says to take something here and make it better. Clicking 'read more' below this photo connects you to the appeal from our local historian to take Gov. Bevin's challenge with our historic Adair County Courthouse which has waited so long to be a priority. The focus is becoming more clear by the minute. Many here are intentional about restoration of this landmark building and continue to ask and take action for its upgrades and repurposing as a community gathering place. There are those at work right now on the chimney tops (thank you, fiscal court). There is yet another group working out how to make new parts so the clock will work again (we can't announce this yet). And then this reminder -- someone placed a little decorated rock with the word "dream" written on it, along with craft decorations to make it draw interest (see lower right corner of photo). The Governor's challenge comes -- can you hear the cymbals in the grand crescendo -- right on the heels of all these things. It has to be a sign, right? So we share the unidentified artist's "dream" message (thank you for that reminder), and the appeal from the devoted historian, and the beautiful geraniums by the fountain, thanks to the Garden Club. See how the residents of this place are coming together? See how we can win the contest, bring our governor to town for a public square barbecue and how everyone of us can reap the benefits of a community coming together to make things better here? Pay attention, Gov. Bevin, this contest belongs to Adair County, we are making our place better! Please be taking pictures of every effort toward the deadline! - LW
