A single bloom on a tall red zinnia stands out like a flag over the pond beside the back of the Janice Holt and Henry Giles House, 380 Spout Springs Road, Columbia, KY. The beautiful log home of the famed writers is a house for all seasons, but fall, now with its myriad of yellow, orange and purple flowers; later when fall leaves of every hue surround the place, is the favorite season of many. This photo was taken Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2014. The Janice Holt and Henry Giles Historic Log House (the Giles would firmly correct anyone who called it a "log cabin;" it was a "log house," they told us) is open June through October 1pm-4pmCT, Saturdays and Sundays.
