B-52s like the one pictured sometimes perform maneuvers over the Great Wooded South. As an aerial fire spotter in a very small plane, Billy Joe had to help the pilot keep an eye out for them, because downwash turbulence from their massive wings could cause the smaller plane to lose control if they accidentally fly through it.
