Scenic Adair Co.: Union Cemetery

2025-07-29 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Ed Waggener
This 2015 photo from the CM archives shows Union Cemetery as seen from Milltown Church Road. Union Cemetery is one of Adair County's most historic, containing not only the remains of many who lost their lives in the Gradyville Flood of 1907, but also Gilmer Cemetery, which was relocated to Union Cemetery in 2006, when Holladay Place was under construction.

On Friday, August 1, 2025, Dave Thomas and Mike Watson will lead participants of the Lanterns and Tomsbstones Cemetery Walking Tour through various parts of Union Cemetery, pointing out bits of interesting lore along the way. As Ed Waggener said in 2015, "Views from the cemetery are both spectacular and serene... The cemetery is a great place to visit, walk, and to learn important Adair County history."
