Mystery solved: the frozen Yellow Poplar bloom

Congratulations to Nancy Riddle and Page Candler who were the first to guess the frozen sculpture (at right, posted on Columbia Magazine early yesterday) as the tulip tree blossom.
One of the ways we cope with Kentucky's changing seasons is to focus on photographing the absolute beauty and mystery of our landscape. Photographer Jackie Montgomery enjoys walking with her dog Adiona in the Sano community (center) and capturing the wonders of her world - in spring and summer (at left) and in the depths of winter (at right).
The Yellow Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera), or tulip tree as we call it, produces large, cup-shaped flowers in late spring to early summer (April–June) that resemble yellow-green tulips with a bright orange band at the base. Comments | Permalink Blue Jay at my feeder
