Chief Chris Taylor says "As we enter the summer season and this week kicks off national safe boating week, we want to remind you to be safe on the water this season. The statistics speak for themselves. 79% of boat deaths are due to drowning, 86% of victims are NOT wearing a life jacket and 2/3 of drowning victims are 'good' swimmers.

Wearing a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket is the simplest life-saving strategy for being in or around the water."
