Melton and Price receive Hoots Scholarships

Sisters Dr. Cathy Hoots Abell and Mayor Pam Hoots presented Emily Price, in the photo at left, and Jonathan Melton, in the photo at right, with 2021 Hoots Memorial Scholarships recently.
The scholarship is in memory of their parents Gene and Joyce Hoots of Columbia. The recipients are to be a current student or alumni of Adair County High School, pursuing secondary education in a vocational field. Comments | Permalink

Ripening grapes in Cane Valley, Adair Co., Kentucky

Robert writes, "August is the month when my small vineyard yields its fruits. Typical of the Concord grape is the uneven ripening. My vineyard is purely organic, no spraying of any kind...just harvest what is useable. Couple winters back, half of my vineyard was destroyed by late freeze, but I was able to restart the plants by letting a few new buds at the base of the original vine grow into new plants. Wasn't much of any kind of harvest last year, but this year is making up for the difference." Comments | Permalink
