Billy Joe writes, "This White Oak is suffering from a little 'midriff bulge'. Midriff bulge is a term I remember from a commercial back in the sixties, I believe. And 'no' is the answer to your question, I've never seen an anomaly quite like it. It appears that something like a metal ring off an old wooden barrel may have been placed around the tree which the tree over grew with scar tissue. That happens a lot when foreign objects are encountered by trees.
There is an old wagon trail right next to the tree connecting the creek with the top of the ridge. I suspect the road was used to transport water and or liquid corn from the depths of the Great Wooded South to a thirsty population in the Weed Ridge and Meat Skin Road area." Comments | Permalink
