Veteran's Banners: PFC Michael Callison

Patricia Wheeler writes, “I want to say thanks for putting Veterans pictures around Columbia - on my morning walk I have looked For Mike Callison’s picture. There it was right in front me. In life that the way it is, sometimes we're looking for something and it's right in front of us #Morning Walk #Healing Broken Heart #DaddyGirl #KimCarter."
PFC Michael Callison served in the Army in Vietnam during the late 1970s and had health issues related to the herbicide, Agent Orange. His brother, David Callison served in Virginia during the Vietnam war and now resides in Louisville. Michael grew up on Holmes Bend Road with his father, Horace Callison, and mother, Elizabeth. After the war, he lived in Macon, GA until his death in 2020. He is survived by his first wife, Connie Wheeler; his daughter, Stephanie Kimberly Carter; his second wife, Jean Holt; and his son, Steven Callison. Comments | Permalink

Ashton Flatt organizes GR Clean-Up project

2021 Rogers Scholar and Adair County High School student Ashton Flatt organized the Green River clean-up project. She asked students, community members, friends and family to pitch in and pick up litter and debris on May 13, in preparation for the summer tourist season.
“The lake is a place for gathering,” she said. “Family and friends are important to me. Having a clean place to go and hang out means a lot to everyone. It’s easier to take kids places when you know they are safe.” Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project.
