House fire likely caused by lightning

Flooding Rains

Veronica writes, "We built little creek crossings in the fall for the wet season. They held just fine all winter. Last night it all washed away, several feet of rock (at least a foot deep) washed away. Our pond rose several feet overnight and is overflowing. The little streams are gushing and I believe the soil is saturated and at capacity. Thank goodness the crops are already sown and they will help with the water. I haven't gotten an official total of rainfall BUT I guesstimate over 3 inches. I think possibly more depending on where you are on the map put out by the National Weather Service in Louisville."
Note: The Adair County Mesonet station measured 1.47 inches of accumulated rain for the last 24 hours, but that collection point is in north-central Adair Co. The Cumberland County Mesonet is showing 3.2 inches of accumulated rain for the last 24 hours, and the Metcalfe station shows 2.4 inches, so 3 inches of rain in Fairplay seems entirely likely. Leslie Keltner speaks on Adair County Adult Education

Leslie Keltner, at left, Instructor, at the local Adair County Adult Education, gave a brief update on expanded services at the Columbia-Adair Economic Development Authority meeting Tuesday. The staff is reaching out, spreading the word that the agency is not just for the GED anymore, although that is a key service, helping people get their high school diplomas. They also offer assistance with computer literacy, resumes, and more. They hold classes, courses and one-on-one tutoring in person or virtually. At right, preparing for the meeting to begin, are Bobby Morrison, chairman, and Roger Meadows, treasurer of EDA. Comments | Permalink
