Betty B. Stokley, 89, Clay City, KY (1934-2024)

Betty Bruce (Willoughby) Stokley of Clay City, Kentucky, formerly of Adair Co., and widow of James Ben Stokley of Lacoochee, Florida, passed away on April 6, 2024. She was 89 years old.

Betty was the matriarch of her family. A faithful Christian; a kind and gentle soul. She was a talented gardener, an amazing cook and devoted wife, mother, and Mamaw.


She was born in Winchester, Kentucky and was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Willoughby and Robert (Bob) Willoughby.

Survivors include three children:
  • One son; Matthew and wife Judy Stokley of Clay City. Their children Bobby Jean (and Chris) Strange. And Robert Lee Stokley (and Lisa). Her great-grandchildren Marie and Tyler. All of Clay City, Kentucky.

  • One daughter; Elizabeth and husband Casey Fugate of Adair County, Kentucky and their children Amanda (and Sheldon) Alley of Ontario, Canada. Samantha (and Paul) Huffman of Glasgow, Kentucky. Rebecca Sanders of Adair County, Kentucky. Her great-grandchildren Jozlin Alley, Zaddix Alley, Zennon Alley, Zowen Alley, David Huffman, Daniel Huffman, Jane Poff, and Kolten Sanders.

  • One adopted daughter; Joy Watkins of Winchester, Kentucky. Grandchildren Mariah and Zachary.
Betty is proceeded in death by two children: Her son James Robert Stokley of Interlachen, Florida and his wife Kitty Stokley. Surviving grandchildren; Sue Ann Hale (and Daniel) of Richmond Kentucky. Regina Stokley (and Gene) of Irvine, Kentucky, James Jr. Stokley of Florida, and Tonya Hamilton (and Terry) of Interlachen, Florida. Surviving great-grandchildren Mary Beth Register, Michael Stokley, Jessica Banks, James Stokey III, Nicole Blackwelder, Christian Hamilton, Jay Hamilton, and Brett Hamilton. And 8 great-great grandchildren Haven, Rylee, Vance, Eli, Walker, Lucy, Brinley, and Easton.

Betty was also proceeded in death by one daughter Audrey Stokley. And survived by her grandchildren, Ivan Jr. Sams and Robert Lee Sams.

Betty Stokley was survived by two brothers: Carl Willoughby and his late wife Betty of Winchester, Kentucky. Their children Kathy, Shari, Debbie, Mike, and Lloyd "Petey". Also, her brother Russell Willoughby and wife Phylis of Winchester Kentucky and their children Russell Jr, and David.

Betty was proceeded in death by two brothers Bobby Willoughby and Silas Willoughby. Surviving nieces and nephews are Gary (and Sandy), Carol (and Danny), Mindy, Jamie, Jimmy, Silas Jr, Forrest, and Mary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you practice random acts of kindness in her honor.
