Lula Clarkson Pettey, 85, Russell County, KY (1938-2024)

Lula Clarkson Pettey, of Jamestown, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation. She was 85 years of age.

Born at home, in Casey County, on September 10, 1938, she was a daughter of the late James and Hazel Lillian Sanders Clarkson. Lula was a retired home economics teacher and food service manager with the Russell County Board of Education. After retiring from the school system, Lula worked for Home Health Care and the KOA Campground. She was a member of the Russell County Homemakers. Lula lived a very colorful and fulfilled life. Her creative mindset allowed her to accomplish anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed making pottery, crafts, and crocheting, just to name a few. Lula loved karaoke and was a huge Elvis fan.


Lula is survived by her three children, James (and Michelle) Pettey, Reg Pettey, and Audra Roberts, all of Jamestown; two grandchildren, Shelbie (and Coty) Landis, of Columbia, and Andrea (and Matt) Esau, of Russell Springs; three great-grandchildren, Eli Landis, Reed Landis, and Brynn Esau; and two sisters, Neleta Clarkson, of Jamestown, and Nelda Walker, of Montana.

In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Pettey; her two brothers, Victor Clarkson, and Curtis Clarkson; and one sister, Viola Thomas.

A memorial service honoring Lula's life will be held at 5pmCT on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Wendell Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-5 on Wednesday.
