Shannon Sexton: More signs might help navigate Columbia, but for specific areas

Shannon Sexton writes:
I'm not sure on this one Ed. Maybe some signs on the main entrances of Columbia and Square that show "Historic Downtown", "Business District", "Industrial District", "Retail District" etc with handy arrows pointing the way? I don't think our local government should take up pointing folks to a specific business (Walmart) because they couldn't put up signs for all businesses. -Shannon Sexton

Signs and upgrades on the Columbia Public Square make news

2018-08-29 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
A few days ago, Rita King from Casey County wrote a note proclaiming how confusing driving around Columbia is and suggesting a few signs - thank you for the feedback, Rita - the city needs to know where to invest improvement in communications for better traffic flow. In response to Rita's comment, Shannon Sexton sent in some possible sign ideas that could indicate "Historic Downtown", "Business District", "Industrial District", "Retail District" - and they could really help people unfamiliar with downtown. As one who loves this place, I feel called to help document and explore good ideas like Rita's and Shannon's, and applaud every good deed that helps with restoration of our historic Public Square, like the work being done on the Wid Harris building above the law office of Dustin Warren in this picture. - LW
