LWC men's tennis hosts Lindenwood-Belleville Thursday

The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team hosts Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 2:30pmCT at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, 401 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.



On Saturday, the men's and women's teams host Cumberland (TN) for a Mid-South Conference matchup beginning at 11amCT.

The Blue Raiders (3-0, 1-0 MSC) were last in action on March 9 where they defeated Cumberlands (KY) 5-4 in their MSC opener. Lindsey Wilson won two of the three doubles points to lead 2-1 going into singles play. After the Blue Raiders went up 4-2, the Patriots won the next two singles matches to tie the match at 4-4. Javier Raya fell in the first set 6-4 before winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 to secure the match for Lindsey Wilson.Lindenwood-Belleville (7-2) defeated Freed-Hardeman (TN) 8-1 on Sunday. The Lynx won all three doubles matches and won five of the six matches in singles play. Lindenwood-Belleville has won four of its last five matches.

Today's matchup is the first meeting between the two schools.

No. 16-ranked Cumberland (10-1) defeated Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on March 14 6-3. The Phoenix took two of the three doubles matches and secured the victory by winning the first three singles points. The Phoenix have won seven of their last eight matches.

Saturday's matchup is the 22nd meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 14-7 edge in the series and has won the last four matches. The two teams last met on April 4, 2017 where the Blue Raiders picked up a 6-3 win.

The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's team (2-1, 1-0 MSC) opened up conference play on March 9. The Blue Raiders captured all three doubles points before winning five of six singles matches.

20th-ranked Cumberland (6-6) was last in action on March 14 when they defeated Martin Methodist 6-3. The Phoenix won the first two doubles matches before dropping the third to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. Cumberland then won the first two singles points to go up 4-1 before Martin Methodist won the next two to cut the lead to 4-3. The Phoenix won the next two singles points to secure the victory.

Saturday is the 21st meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 16-4 edge in the series and have won the last 16 matchups dating back to March 23, 2005. The two teams last met on April 4, 2017 with the Blue Raiders picking up a 9-0 victory.

The men's match with Lindenwood-Belleville begins on Thursday at 2:30pmCT at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, 401 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. The men's and women's MSC match with Cumberland on Saturday begins at 11amCT at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
