The 2018 Farm, Home & Garden Expo, March 17, 2018, at the Adair County Elementary School, enjoyed a better than usual crowd even with fewer vendors this time. The weather was perfect for thinking about planting and growing.

The annual event is presented by the Adair County Extension Council. A new activity this year was the Cupcake Wars. Just after noon Tony Rose, Adair County Agent for Youth and 4-H, announced the winners:

  • Judges voted the best was Team 4, Alice in Wonderland theme, which got the winners, Chloe Grider and Elizabeth Marcum a $25 visa gift card.

  • Another winner, Team 1, Mirah Murphy and Beth Cowan. Team 1 was voted Viewers Choice.
Teams are listed below:
- Team 1 - Mirah Murphy, and Beth Cowan, 7th graders at ACMS, decorated Cookie Monster cupcakes.

- Team 2 - Jenna McGaha, and Tori Kimbler, ACHS students, decorated cupcakes to look like Minion faces.

- Team 3 - ACMS students Taylor Smith, and Mackenzie Bennett were ready for the cupcake judging.

- Team 4 - Alice in Wonderland theme cupcake decorations by Chloe Grider and Elizabeth Marcum, ACHS students. Mascot was Alayna Marcum.

- Team 5 - Eliza Spinks and Emylou Miller, had to leave before the judging for softball. They made Minion cupcakes.

- Team 6 - Morgan Spoon, and Kiara Collins, ACMS students, created their cupcake decoration theme around trolls, using cotton candy for the troll hair.
All contestants were provided identical cupcakes but each brought their own icing and iced the cupcakes in front of judges.

All participants received a 4-H blue ribbon for participation and any who want to may apply to go on to State Fair competition, an all day serious competition.
