LWC tennis travels to Cumberlands Friday for MSC opener

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's tennis face Cumberlands in their Mid-South Conference openers at the UC Tennis Complex, 94-327 N 11th Street, Williamsburg, KY. Friday, March 9, 2018, 2pmCT/3pmET.


The No. 2-ranked women's team (1-1) defeated William Woods (MO) on Sunday 5-1. Lindsey Wilson took 2-of-3 doubles matches and the first three singles matches to secure the victory. Last season, the Blue Raiders went 6-0 in the MSC winning both the regular season and conference tournament titles.

Cumberlands (2-3) defeated Point (GA) 8-1 on Sunday. The Patriots won two doubles matches and won all six singles matches. Cumberlands went 5-1 in the MSC last season with its lone loss against Lindsey Wilson 6-3.

Lindsey Wilson has won 16-consecutive matches against Cumberlands dating back to April 16, 2011. The two teams last met on May. 17, 2017 in the NAIA National Tournament where the Blue Raiders picked up a 5-0 victory.

The No. 6-ranked men's team (2-0) picked up a 5-3 victory against William Woods on Sunday. Lindsey Wilson led 2-1 heading into singles play where they won three of five matches for the 5-3 victory. The Blue Raiders went 6-0 last season in conference play winning the regular season title.

Cumberlands (1-4) was defeated by Point on Saturday 5-4. The Patriots led 2-1 heading into singles play and then won the first two matches to take a 4-1 lead. Point then won the next four singles matches to defeat Cumberlands. Last season the Patriots went 3-3 in MSC play.

The Blue Raiders have won the last 20 matchups with the Patriots dating back to March 13, 2008. Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands last met on April 24, 2017 in the MSC Tournament Semifinals where the Blue Raiders won 5-0.
