Columbia man airlifted to UK following Bypass/KY 61 collision Owensboro driver extricated from second vehicle. Columbia Police, Adair County Sheriffs Department, Adair EMS, and Columbia/Adair Fire Department responded to incident. CPD Sgt Gary Roy is continuing investigation of incident. SEE EARLIER ARTICLE, this story: Traffic Alert: Use extra caution at Bypass & Burkesville Street with photo(s) Click on headline for complete CPD story By Josh Brockman Public Information Officer Columbia Police Department, Chief Jason Cross Columbia Police Department is investigating an early morning injury accident at Veterans Bypass and Burkesville Street, resulting in one patient being airlifted. Preliminary investigation shows that Paul Thompson, 37, of Owensboro, KY was traveling east on the Veterans Memorial Bypass in a 2014 Toyota. Thompson failed to stop at traffic control device and entered the intersection. Thompson's vehicle struck a 2005 Nissan operated by 43 year old Eric Coomer of Columbia, KY, who was traveling south on Burkesville Street, with right of way. Coomer was treated on scene by Adair County EMS and transported to TJ Health of Columbia, then transferred to UK Hospital by helicopter via Air Evac. Thompson had to be extricated from vehicle by Columbia Adair County Fire Department before being transported to TJ Health of Columbia. The collision is being investigated by CPD Sgt. Gary Roy . Roy was assisted by Deputy Joey Keith.
