William W. Long, Sr., Taylor County, KY (1925-2018)

Mr. Long was a World War II Veteran and was honorably discharged after two years in the Navy. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with an Engineering Decree. As a young man, Mr. Long united in marriage to Marcella Whitlock who preceded him in death September 12, 2009. He leaves 31 direct living descendants. Mr. Long was the owner of W. W. Long Oil Company in Campbellsville, KY from 1968 until he retired. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

William W. Long, Sr. of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late William Long and Mary Wolfe Peters, was born August 10, 1925 in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He departed this life on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee after an extended illness. He was 92 years of age.

Funeral mass will be at 10amCT/11amET, Monday, January 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 429 N Central Avenue, Campbellsville, KY by Rev. Fr. Saju Vadakumpadan. Burial will be in Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon National Cemetery, 20 Hwy 208, Lebanon, KY, with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm8pmET, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY.

William W. Long, Sr. of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late William Long & Mary Wolfe Peters, was born August 10, 1925 in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, KY. He departed this life on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Nashville, Davidson County, TN, at the age of 92 years, five months, and 10 days.

Mr. Long was a World War II Veteran and was honorably discharged after two years in the Navy. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with an Engineering Decree. As a young man, Mr. Long united in marriage to Marcella Whitlock who preceded him in death September 12, 2009. Mr. Long was the owner of W. W. Long Oil Company in Campbellsville, Kentucky from 1968 until he retired.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

He leaves to mourn his passing:
  • Six children: Bill Long & wife, Donna Davenport Long of Campbellsville, KY; Anne Roddick of Brentwood, TN; Marci Long of Chattanooga, TN; Jane McKinley & husband, Jeff of Ooltewah, TN; Alice Carnes & husband, Kevin of Louisville, KY; and Martha Cox & husband, John of Franklin, TN

  • Four brothers

  • One sister

  • Fifteen grandchildren

  • Ten great-grandchildren

  • And a host of other family and friends, including all the neighbors in Johnsport Subdivision.
He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike Roddock.
