Kentucky Writers' Day is 1 May 2017 in Frankfort

Communities across the state are invited to recognize Writers' Day in their own commuities.Click on headline for complete story with link to guide for local writer's days

FRANKFORT, KY - (Thu 30 Mar 2017) - The Kentucky Writers' Day Celebration is May 1, 2017, at 9amCT/10amET, at the Old State Capitol, 300 W Broadway Street, Frankfort, KY, and will include the installation of the 2017-2018 Kentucky Poet Laureate as well as readings by past poets laureate. There will be a reception at 10amCT/11amET. The event is open to the public.



For Kentuckians who can't travel to Frankfort for the celebration, the Kentucky Arts Council provides a planning guide for recognizing Writers' Day in their own communities.

The guide is downloadable from the arts council website. See (Kentucky Writers' Day Planning Guide -PDF which downloads quickly and is full of helpful ideas about how schools, libraries, businesses, colleges and universities and other organizations can celebrate Writers' Day locally.

"We want Writers' Day to be a celebration accessible to all Kentuckians," said Lydia Bailey Brown, arts council executive director. "If you can't be with us in Frankfort, this planning guide is a wonderful tool to help personalize what the written word means in your own communities."
