Blue Raiders eclipse century mark for second time this season

COLUMBIA, KY (25 Nov 2016) - Hot shooting from the field carried the No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team past Life (GA) 101-62 in its Mid-South Conference opener at Biggers Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.




The Blue Raiders (8-0, 1-0 MSC) shot 53.7 percent from the field on the day, eclipsing the century mark in points for the second time this season.

Lindsey Wilson's defense held its own as well on Saturday, limiting the Running Eagles (2-7, 0-1 MSC) to 37.8 percent shooting including 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from behind the arc.

Chanel Roberts led all scorers with 21 points and did not miss all afternoon - going 8-of-8 from the field, 2-of-2 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 at the line

Jacky Jones carried Life with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Raiders used a barrage of three pointers to grab a 57-20 halftime lead. Lindsey Wilson knocked down seven of its first 11 attempts from deep with five players making at least one shot from behind the arc.

Roberts and Heidi Huffman both made a pair of treys in the first half. Roberts led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 14 points.

Lindsey Wilson scored the first 15 points of the game to take control early. Life finally broke through when Damiya Montgomery's two pointer went in with 4:38 remaining in the quarter, and Life trailed 35-6 after the first 10 minutes.

The Blue Raiders converted all eight of their free throws in the first quarter and finished the game with a significant edge in shots at the line - making 20 free throws to Life's three.

Lindsey Wilson built its advantage further in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 42 points at 3:58 before halftime.

The Blue Raiders went ahead 43 points on two occasions in the third quarter - its largest advantage of the game.

Huffman's made three pointer gave Lindsey Wilson a 79-36 lead with 1:20 left in the quarter. Following a Montgomery basket, Billie Hearn converted a layup, making the score 81-38 with 35 seconds left in the period.

Life trailed 81-40 at the end of the third quarter.

The Running Eagles pulled to within 34 in the final period on the strength of their full-court pressure. Life forced seven turnovers in the fourth quarter and went on an 11-2 run, ending with a Kierra Knight three-point field goal to cut its deficit to 91-57 with 3:37 remaining in the game.
