Public Forum on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome at LWC

By Greg Phelps

The Lindsey Wilson College Center for Public Life will host a public forum to discuss Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). The forum is scheduled for 7pmCT, Thursday, September 22, 2016, in Turner 211, Turner Building, 100 Blue Raider Drive, Columbia, KY, on the Lindsey Wilson College.

NAS is a multi-symptom condition that occurs when newborn babies experience withdrawal from the drugs, particularly opioids, their mothers used during pregnancy. It is a rapidly growing problem in Kentucky. In fact, Kentucky is one of four southern states that lead the nation in numbers of reported NAS cases.

The forum will focus on increasing awareness and understanding of the NAS problem and what the local community can do to solve the problem.

So that we can get an estimate for how many materials to prepare for forum participants, please RSVP to phelpsg@lindsey.edu by Tuesday, September 20, 2016. --Greg Phelps
