The exhibit will be on display in the lodge lobby of Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, 20781 Pennyrile Lodge Road, Dawson Springs, KY, June 1 to August 31, 2016. Access to the exhibit is free. In conjunction with the exhibit, banjo player Sue Massek, a recipient of an arts council Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant, will perform at 7pmCT, Friday, June 24, 2016at the park. The performance is free. "Makings of a Master" contains seven display cases housing a variety of musical instruments, tools and artwork made by master tradition bearers, interpretive panels, display photos and quotes and a push-button video display. Kentucky Arts Council Executive Director Lori Meadows and Department of Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland said pairing "Makings of a Master" with the scenic beauty of Pennyrile Forest was a natural fit. "Just as our state parks are stewards of Kentucky's oldest natural resources, 'Makings of a Master' chronicles Kentucky's enduring artistic traditions," Meadows said. "We're confident this partnership will set a precedent for taking the exhibit to other facilities in our phenomenal state park system." "Our park system is proud to be able to host the 'Makings of a Master' exhibit," Holland said. "This will make a great addition to Pennyrile Forest's natural beauty for our guests to enjoy." Peter Bowles, Pennyrile Forest State Park manager, said he is excited that Pennyrile was selected to be the first park to host "Makings of a Master." "We appreciate this partnership with the arts council," Bowles said. "Having this exhibit here at Pennyrile will help educate our visitors about Kentucky's unique culture and heritage."
