Shayla Cravens will compete at National Jr. Beta Convention Rising star Shayla Cravens is an 8th Grade student at Adair County Middle School. She is the daughter of Jackie & Nancy Cravens. She has qualified to complete at the National Jr. Beta Convention in New Orleans, the second ACMS students in two years to do so. Shayla's subject area is photography Click on headline for complete story By Alma Rich As most students are planning how to spend their summer vacation by filling it with days in the sun and time spent with friends, Shayla Cravens is adding one additional thing to her summer! In February, members of the Adair County Middle School Junior Beta Club traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to the state Junior Beta Convention to compete in several different events. Junior Beta members from all over the state were there doing the same--competing in hopes of earning a chance to advance to National competition. In order to advance, a student had to place in the top three of an event. On the final day of the state convention, winners were announced. Shayla sat with her friends and awaited the category of photography. Finally, the announcement was made and Shayla heard her name being called as the third place winner in the category of photography! She had done it! She earned the right to advance to National Convention! June 23-26, 2016, Shayla and her parents along with BETA Sponsors at Adair County Middle School will be traveling to New Orleans, LA, for Shayla to compete nationally in photography at the National Junior Beta Convention. Shayla is an 8th grade student at ACMS. She is the daughter of Jackie and Nancy Cravens. Shayla makes the second student from Adair County Middle School to attend National Convention. Last year, Jaden Taylor not only placed first in state competition in science but also placed first in national competition! Adair County Middle School is very proud of Shayla and her accomplishments thus far and wishes her the best of luck at National Competition. - Alma Rich is Principal of Adair County Middle School, 322 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY. This story was posted on 2016-05-10 19:31:10
