Knifley/Jamestown, KY team wins Crappie USA Tournament

Team of David Jones, Knifley, KY & Corey Thomas, Jamestown, KY, win First Place, Pro Division of the Crappie USA Super Event held Friday & Saturday, April 29 and 30, 2016, win first place with total of 13.57 pounds, winning the big money. Other winners: Second, Lynn & Nathan Cochran, Springfield, KY; Third, Robert Massey & Todd Dalton, Somerset, KY; Fourth, Joe & Janette Carter of Gilbert, SC; and Fifth, Donnie Burris & Dennis Yates of Columbia, KY.

Green River Lake played host to the Crappie USA Super Event this past Friday & Saturday, April 29 & 30, 2016. 149 anglers from 9 states were competing for not only the $14,875.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic.




This year's classic will be held October 27 - 29, 2016 on Kentucky & Barkley Lakes at Paris, Tennessee.

Green River Lake State Park opened in 1969 and contains 1,331 acres of land along with the 8,200-acre lake that is abundant with crappie.


Pro Division Results:

David Jones of Knifley, Kentucky and Corey Thomas of Jamestown, Kentucky took first place with a total weight of 13.57 pounds and earning $3,000.00, plus $500.00 Talon Bonus and $400.00 for 2nd place Big Fish. The team targeted wood cover all over the lake in 10 feet of water using B 'n' M poles that were rigged with 2 hook minnow rigs on Gamma Line to catch 80 - 100 keepers for the event. T The team stated that the fish were holding tight to wood cover this weekend. David and Corey's 2nd place Big Fish for the event weighed in at 1.87 pounds. Rainy conditions all day on Saturday didn't keep the team of Lynn and Nathan Cochran of Springfield, Kentucky from taking second place with a total weight of 13.01 pounds and earning $2,000.00, plus an additional $250.00 Ranger Cup Bonus. Team Cochran fished Robinson Creek to Holmes Bend in 5 to 20 feet of water, mostly on wood, using stinger shad jigs and live bait to land 80 fish total for the weekend.

In third place was Robert Massey and Todd Dalton weighing in at 12.05 pounds and earning $1,000.00. The Somerset, Kentucky team fished Butler Creek in 6 to 8 feet of water using baby shad color jigs around wood cover to catch 60 - 80 fish for this tournament weekend.

Joe and Janette Carter of Gilbert, South Carolina took fourth place with a total weight of 11.82 pounds. The team fished Holmes Bend area, trolling in 10 to 13 feet of water using Big Bite and Charlie Brewer baits of various colors to land 50 fish this weekend and taking home a check for $600.00. Fifth place went to Donnie Burris and Dennis Yates weighing in at 11.79 pounds and earning $400.00. The team from Columbia, Kentucky fished open water on the South end of Green River Lake long line trolling in 10 to 11 feet of water. Donnie and Dennis used chartreuse and pumpkin seed colors to catch 60 fish for the weekend.
