Campbellsville , KY police report officer involved shooting

Campbellsville officers attempting to serve outstanding felony warrant for parole violation.

On Friday, April 15, 2016 at approximately 10:30pmCT, officers with the Campbellsville Police Department attempted to serve an outstanding felony warrant for probation violation on 24 year old William B. Tompkins Jr.of Campbellsville.



Tompkins attempted to strike Officer Jacob Hedgespeth with his vehicle at which time Officer Hedgespeth fired at Tompkins. Tompkins fled the scene, but was later apprehended by Kentucky State Police without further incident. Tompkins was arrested, charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, and lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred on Gardner Street, Campbellsville, KY. Agencies on the scene included Campbellsville Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff's Office, and the Kentucky State Police. Detective Nelson Bishop of the Campbellsville Police Department is the investigating officer.

Issuance of warrants and/or arrests are not findings of guilt. An individual charged by police or in a warrant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
