Poetry by Robert Stone: A life continuing

A life continuing

- a sonnet for the birthday of Renate zum Tobel, reflecting on seven gifts
A weed is but a flower out of place
and understanding recognizes worth.
A hate is but a love in wan disgrace
and fortitude may bring it to rebirth.

A star is but a fire from years ago
and knowledge reassures its present light.
A fear is but a hope that did not grow
and counsel shows a way to set aright.

A seed is but a plant not yet mature
and piety proclaims that all should live.
A pain is but a touch that cries for cure
and wisdom seeks the proper care to give.

A death is but a life continuing
and awe and wonder shape remembering.

- Robert Stone, 15 October 2014
