The Whitehurst Diaries: Meals from the Garden Meals from the garden are eagerly awaited and enjoyed. - SHARON WHITEHURST Click on headline for complete essay with photo(s) By Sharon Whitehurst Our April plantings were caught in a spell of cold and rain, leaving the seed sulking and rotting in the ground. Only the onions - the bunching variety from sets provided by friend Shirley Jones of White Oak Church Road - braved the chilly spring weather. Today Jim harvested a green pepper and the sleek cucumber from our garden at the Cane Valley property. Supper tonight featured a chicken stir fry enhanced by the pepper, onions and garlic, while the cuke was served up in a marinade of vinegar, freshly ground pepper and a sprinkle of raw sugar.
