Photograph of Oil Portrait of a founder of Columbia at ACPL Portrait discovered by Richard Phelps has been professionally photographed by Greg Thomas and is now on display in the genealogy department at Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. The public is invited to view it. Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com Creed Haskins (12/2/1773 - 4/21/1851) It was 1802 when the newly formed county of Adair began official proceeding in the county seat of Columbia, KY. Three men Daniel Trabue, his brother in law Creed Haskins and their nieces husband William Caldwell had selected the site for the new town. All became early leaders in Columbia's formation of government and business. The existence of an oil portrait of founder Creed Haskins 1773-1851 was recently discovered by Adair Heritage Association member Richard Phelps. The portrait, a family heirloom of the family of the late Daniel William "Billy" Mitchell 1925-2012 has been professionally photographed by Greg Thomas. The photograph will be placed in the Adair County Library Geneology Center and the Trabue-Russell House. On Tuesday, February 25, 2014 Richard Phelps, Greg Thomas and Adair County Historian Mike Watson met in Campbellsville in the home of Juanita "Jean" Mitchell for the photographing session. Also attending were Creed Haskin decendants Dr. Ron & Elsie Hatcher of Bowling Green, KY, Ron Hatcher was the first to learn of the existence of the portrait several months ago. Mrs. Mitchell's daughter Laura Wilds and husband Lloyd Wilds and their daughter Shelby Wilds were also present for the meeting. Shelby Wilds is the great, great, great, great, great, great granddaughter of Creed Haskins a founder of Columbia, KY.
