Rotary schedules an active April 2013

Meetings will be at noon each second and fourth Mondays, at Cranmer Dining Center. Feed em Beans coming soon. And club's annual auction will be Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30, 2013

By George Kolbenschlag

April 2013 will be a busy month for Columbia Rotarians. The club plans to change its meeting time and has scheduled two of its popular annual events for next month.

Beginning April 8, Rotary will move its meeting times to noon to accommodate those who cannot fit evening meetings into their busy schedules.

A number of local business men and women have indicated they would be more likely to join the club if the meetings were moved to the lunch time. The club hopes the change will expand its membership to be able to better assist its mission to serve the community.

The club will meet at the Lindsey Wilson College dining center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY, at 12pm noon CT-1pmCT, the second and fourth Mondays each month. The meetings will include lunch and a brief business meeting or community service program. Persons who want to know more about Rotary are welcome at any Rotary meeting.

The Rotary annual "Feed 'em Beans" corn bread and bean tax relief lunch will be April 12 at Columbia United Methodist Church, 203 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. The $5 tickets are available from any Rotarian or at the door. The club's annual radio auction is scheduled for from 6pm-9pmCT, Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30, 2013, and will be simulcast on WAIN 93.5 FM radio and The WAVE 92.7 FM radio.

Proceeds from both events are used for the club's commitment to make a positive contribution to our region. Most of the proceeds from the auction, usually $5,000 to $7,000 go towards scholarships to Lindsey Wilson College for Adair County High School graduates. Proceeds from the bean lunch are used for other community service projects.

Rotary International is the world's largest service club with more than 1.2 million members in 3,300 Rotary clubs located in more than 200 countries. The Columbia club has been serving our community since 1935 and is a diverse group of men and women who are active in the community in both club sponsored events and in their individual service preferences.

Rotary is primarily a service club, but it is also an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, discuss current topics and act on service projects with friends. Rotary International's motto, "Service Above Self," pretty will sums up what Rotary is all about.
