J.W. Corbin, age 77 years of Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday March 10, 2013 at 3:58amCT, at the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11amCT/12pm noon ET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. William Davenport the officiating clergy. Interment in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1267 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors provided by the US Navy. The family request visiting after 4pmCT/5pmET, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary.

He was born in Columbia, Adair County, KY on January 12, 1936. He was the son of the late William O. and Fannie Lou Powell Corbin of Adair County, KY. He died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 3:58amCT, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 77 years, 1 months, and 29 days.

He was preceded in death by one brother: Kenneth Corbin.

He is survived by his wife: Altha Prock Corbin of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One daughter: Reta Nokes and husband Rodney of Columbia, KY

  • Eight sisters: Reta Moss and Janet Sewell both of Columbia, KY; Phyllis Minnik and Enola Gifford of Elizabethtown, KY; Elaine Brothers of Scottsdale, AZ; Betty Corbin of Phoenix, AZ; Margaret Corbin of Phoenix, AZ, and Melba Shlimmer of East Tawas, MI

  • Two granddaughters: Nena Cowan and husband Kevin and Kaitlyn Nokes

  • Several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends
Mr. Corbin served in the US Navy for over 20 years and was a retired carpenter.
