Paul Patton: Editorial comment on the signs of our times

Story, with novel way counties could profit on popular road signs
Comments re photo 48578 Chelfs Progress Photo proof evidence of Pilgrimmage By Paul Patton

Congratulations upon having your picture taken at the Chelf Ridge Road sign in Casey County. Knowing you to be a man of integrity I am confident you left the sign in place for other Chelf related people to come be photographed in this spot where you stood, having attained another of your goals in life.

Not so with a certain large family here in Taylor County where every descendant of the man for whom a road was named wanted his or her own road sign.

When I served as county judge executive, one of our major road expenses was replacing that sign practically every month.

It got to the place where I was tempted to either change the name of the road or order a large supply of this particular road sign and make them available in my office.

At least this would have saved some time for the road department who had to replace the signs. I am enjoying all your pictures of Casey County scenes which just happens to be the only place in Kentucky where I was born. Patton, Campbellsville

Thanks.: Appreciate your comments, Bro. Patton. Perhaps the Adair County Fiscal Court could take a cue from you and start selling Hooterville Road signs to stop the vandalism here. On another note, the only county in Kentucky which can claim your birthplace. Casey County has us really worried right now. Dunnville, KY Boomtown, USA, (Williston, ND aside) is growing so fast we're looking for a stop light anytime. It still has one of the most beautiful churches campuses in America, but lately, the entire northern side has been overtaken with construction. On the east side of the road is a building about the size of the Pentagon - almost choked on my Dogwalk cheese sandwich when I sighted it, it startled me so. Across the US 27, eyes toward Ellistown and Pellyton, a major financial institution is taking place. Wish someone would let us know what is going on. Is Dunnville poised to become a major Quad-County Destination City, for Pulaski, Adair, Russell and Casey? Suspect a vast eternal plan underway.

And yes, we did leave the sign, but would love to be able to buy one. - EW
