Comment: Vote leaders out of office who don't lead The folks who we put our trust in to look out for our interests and welfare too often subrogate their duties and responsibilities to an ever increasing cadre of bureaucrats and appointed factotums with little direct electoral accountability Comments re article 57559 Vote leaders who dont lead out of office By Jon Halsey Personal opinion Here I go with the "unfortunately" again. We've learned (or should have learned) by now that the Elected Leaders have very little to say about the matters that affect our lives the most. It's unclear if this is a result of happenstance, ennui, laziness or malfeasance. But it's clear that it exists at all levels of Government. The folks who we put our trust in to look out for our interests and welfare too often subrogate their duties and responsibilities to an ever increasing cadre of bureaucrats and appointed factotums with little direct electoral accountability. It seems to me that the only lever the "people" now have is the "power of the press" to shine a bright spotlight on some of the more egregious situations since the political class, elected and unelected, seems to abhor embarrassment more than any other motivation or inducement. Admittedly, with so much of the Main Stream Media compromised, this lever has grown much smaller in today's world. However, as we\'ve recently seen in our local community if enough people join their voices and have an unencumbered press they can accomplish a wealth of good. - Jon Halsey This story was posted on 2013-02-11 09:54:12
