ACES receives 21st Century Learning Center Grant News from the Adair County School District Adair County Elementary School (ACES) has received a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. This five year grant will bring significant funds into the Adair County School District to provide increased academic enrichment opportunities for students through after-school and summer learning programs. The ACES 21st CCLC grant application was written by a collaborative team of Adair Elementary and Col. William Casey staff. "I want to thank Ms. Dana Harmon, Ms. Debbie Bradshaw, Ms. Debbie Cowan and Ms. Paula Bault for their hours of hard work in securing this grant" said Mr. Alan Reed, Adair County Superintendent. "This is a program that provides quality academic, health and wellness, and after-school child care for our students. We are excited to see the program continue and serve even more of our students." Lindsey Wilson College will serve as a community partner for the program. The program at ACES will be known as "Camp SAFARI" and ACES students and parents can expect to see services become available the last few months of this school year and this summer, according to Robbie Harmon, ACES principal. 21st Century Community Learning Center programs (21st CCLC) are made possible through Title IV, Part B, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Centers are designed to offer a variety of enrichment activities that complement regular student academic programs and support family involvement. Grant funds are made available to school districts and community partners through a highly competitive application process. While the Adair County School District currently has one 21st CCLC, "Camp Casey" at Col. William Casey Elementary, this new grant will make the program available to Adair Elementary students as well and ensure that all K-5th graders receive expanded enrichment opportunities. "This is one of the most exciting pieces of news that I can recall", said ACES principal Robbie Harmon. "This grant not only helps the students that currently attend ACES but will extend into the next several years and impact the education of all students' grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The teamwork that was shown during the application process shows the dedication that the staff of Adair County Schools has for all students no matter grade level or school."
