Mass hospital tax recall petition signing Wednesday at Annex Organizer says petition is not to close hospital or to cause anyone to lose job or to stop the hospital sale; it is to give the people the chance to vote. Vicky Pike stresses that one does not have to have voted in the last Presidential Election to be a valid signer of the petition. Checkers will be able to validate correct voting precincts at the meeting, Pike adds. By Victoria Pike The hospital tax recall petition committee will be holding an all day mass signing event in the basement of the Adair County Courthouse Annex, 424 Public Square, Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 10:30am7pmCT. The purpose of the petition is to recall the 3.7 cents per $100 of accessed property value tax placed on the citizens of Adair County by the Adair County Hospital District Board. Petitions will be available for all 16 precincts in the county. The only requirements are that you be a registered voter in Adair County and that you sign the petition for the precinct you vote in. State law requires you sign by precinct instead of one petition for the whole county. Be sure you sign the correct one or it will not count toward the needed 755 signatures needed. The 755 signature number comes from 10% of the voters in the last presidential election. Let me make this very clear, YOU DID NOT HAVE TO VOTE IN THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO BE ABLE TO SIGN THE PETITION. There have been several calls!on this. We will be able to check to see if you are registered and where if you do not know. I hope everyone will come out and sign the petition opposing having a tax of 3.7 cents per $100 of accessed property value placed on them without being first voted on by the citizens of Adair County. This is about letting the people decide. This IS NOT a petition for closing the hospital or hurting those who work at the hospital. The hospital can still be sold if this petition is successful in stopping the tax until it is voted on by the entire county in Nov. 2014. There is a general obligation bond for around 6 million dollars which if paid in full will allow the hospital to be sold with a clear title. The other bond is secured through the Adair County Hospital District Board's ability to put a tax on the taxpayers of Adair County.
