News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - Sachin Kirtane has been named the head men's and women's tennis coach at Lindsey Wilson College - athletic director Willis Pooler announced on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

Kirtane takes over the Blue Raider programs after spending 10 seasons as the head tennis coach at Northern Iowa University.

"I'm excited for our tennis programs because Sachin is a proven, successful coach that can maintain and improve on our level of national prominence in competition," Pooler said. "More importantly, Sachin understands his role in ensuring that our student-athletes excel in the classroom and the community."

"I can't wait to get started at Lindsey Wilson," said Kirtane. "I think the proud tradition of athletics and academics are a great fit for me. I appreciate Willis for giving me this opportunity and I'm looking forward to making this program the best it can be."

Kirtane is the all-time leader in wins at Northern Iowa with 129 and was named the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. That season, Kirtane led the Panthers to a second-place regular-season finish in the conference.

Northern Iowa posted eight consecutive winning seasons under Kirtane, while also being named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team eight straight years.

Kirtane boosted Northern Iowa's reputation in conference play, starting a combined 2-16 in his first two seasons before improving to 24-18 from 2007-2011.

During the 2005 campaign, Kirtane led the Panthers to their first MVC Tournament championship match, losing to regular-season champion Illinois State.

From 1998-2002, Kirtane was the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Valdosta State (Ga.) University.

In 2000, the men's team was ranked fourth in the nation and the women's team won the conference title and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Championship in Pensacola, FL.

In 2001, the men's team was ranked No. 2 in the nation and won its second consecutive conference title.

Kirtane graduated from Valdosta State in 1998 with a marketing degree and in 2000, he earned his master's from VSU in business administration.

As a student-athlete, Kirtane played for VSU's tennis team from 1994-98 where he was an All-America and all-conference performer. He competed in the Division II National Tournament and won the Gulf South Conference title in 1995.

Kirtane was named VSU's Most Valuable Player in 1996 and was a member of the team that finished fourth nationally in 1994-95.

Kirtane was inducted into the Valdosta State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.
