New stretch of KY 61 opening in Adair County July 11

Motorists encouraged to be alert for traffic shift

SOMERSET, KY (July 3, 2012) - The new KY 61 will open to traffic between Sparksville to just south of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway in Adair County Wednesday, July 11, weather permitting.
The nearly $22.7 million project began in 2008 to reconstruct and realign KY 61 from Sparksville to just south of the newly constructed ramps with the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. The new alignment is approximately 6 miles long and consist of two lanes with truck passing lanes on steeper grades and 8 foot paved shoulders.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to be on guard for traffic shifts onto the newly constructed roadway. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to allow eXtra time in reaching their destination. Dial 511 or log onto 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
