Jon Halsey: City would save on flags with better buying

Has idea for savings which might be enough to offset the soon to be non-existent County owned hospital that we will be paying for over the next 20-30 years

Jon Halsey writes:
I have been buying Annin Mfg. American Flags for years and I have never paid the price that the City seems to think is o.k.

A quick scan of Amazon, Walmart and Lowes shows a large variety of American Flags for sale.

Amazon's flags include the following:
- 2.5x4 Cotton (outdoor) $9.69
- 3x5 (Flag and all components American made) embroidered stars and sewn stripes, poly/cotton with strong canvas header $5.49 (for outdoor use)
Walmart offerings:
- Annin 3x5 dyed stars and stripes, nylon $13.97
Lowe's
- 3x5 $11.24
- 2.5x4 $9.98
One begins to wonder if a good, part-time, combined City/County Purchasing Agent (with a charter to justify why local wasn't an option) couldn't pay for her/himself and still return a profit for the taxpayers. Maybe even enough to offset part of the soon to be non-existent County owned hospital that we will be paying for over the next 20-30 years.
