Lindsey Wilson eliminated from NAIA baseball championship 5-1 loss to No. 1 LSU Shreveport in game just ended in Paducah, KY. Blue Raiders finish season with most wins in program history and first MSC Regular-Season Championship By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College PADUCAH, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson pushed all the way to the championship game of the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, but a win against the nation's top-ranked team wasn't meant to be as No. 1-seed LSU Shreveport outscored the Blue Raiders 5-1 on Saturday at Brooks Stadium-Doc Hideg Field. The Blue Raiders finish the season with a 43-16 record, winning their first Mid-South Conference Regular-Season Championship and first win in the NAIA Opening Round along the way. LSU Shreveport (51-4) advances to the Avista-NAIA World Series on May 25-June 1 in Lewiston, Idaho. Derek Cape - making his first start since April 13 when he suffered an injury against St. Catharine (KY - took the loss to end the season with an 8-2 record. Cape allowed four runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings. Pilot starter Logan Norris (8-1) earned the win, allowing just the single run on three hits in a complete nine innings of work. With just three hits on the board, left fielder Adam Peacock paced Lindsey Wilson at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk. Left fielder Kyle Pearson led LSUS, tallying three hits, an RBI and a run scored. The Pilots scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning on third baseman Drew Barrett's wild throw. Pearson hit a grounder to third and the throw was off the mark, allowing Pearson to stay at first, while right fielder Kade Billeaudeaux hustled home from third on the error. Lindsey Wilson responded in the fourth with the tying run. Center fielder Manuel Alonso reached on a walk and later scored on second baseman Tyler Bernard's sacrifice fly. The Pilots loaded the bases in both the fourth and fifth innings. The showing in the fourth produced a single run on two hits, while loading the bases in the fifth resulted in two runs on two hits to push LSUS in front by three, 4-1. After Lindsey Wilson failed to score in the top of the sixth, the Pilots continued to keep the base paths active in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases once again, but failing to score. The next Pilot run was registered in the seventh as Billeaudeaux roped a single to right field, scoring shortstop Manny Estrada who led off the frame with a single.
