Poetry by Robert Stone: Time for me to fly, a sonnet

Time for me to fly
- a sonnet for the birthday of Paul Richmond
I'm getting off this merry-go-round horse
because it never takes me anywhere.
I will not feel the stinging of remorse
for constant circling is too much to bear.

I'm stepping into space so far unknown
because it ever calls me to my quest.
I will not hesitate nor more postpone
for new adventures now demand my best.

I'm stretching into shape to win the prize
because it always rouses me to joys.
I will not wear the well-worn old disguise
for self-assurance ditches past decoys.

I'm looking into space beyond the sky
because it is the time for me to fly.

- Robert Stone, 22 March 2012
