Soccer: LWC Women advance to Quarter Finals of NAIA playoffs No. 1 in nation Blue Raider Women's Soccer Team prevails against No. 16 Oklahoma City 2-1 at NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship, at Jack Allen Complex, 2616 Modaus Road SW, Decatur, AL. By Dan White DECATUR, AL - Amidst snow, sleet, rain, wind and freezing temperatures Lindsey Wilson College still found a way to score twice and beat Oklahoma City University 2-1 in the second round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship on Monday at the Jack Allen Complex, 2616 Modaus RD SW, Decatur, AL. A Star handball in the box in the 30th minute provided the Blue Raiders' first scoring opportunity as junior Mia Persson finished the ensuing penalty kick into the right side of the goal, past the outstretched arms of Oklahoma City goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold. Just three minutes away from halftime the Stars found a way to kick in an equalizer as Meghan McMahon took a pass from Sheridan Horner on the right side of the box for a goal knocked in from just five feet out. The final goal of the game came from the Blue Raiders in the 61st minute as freshman Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen worked her way into the front of a pack that received senior Ida Gregersen's corner kick. Michaelsen tracked down the ball with just Bechtold in front of her for the game-winning finish. The Star goal that might have been may have been the most exciting moment of the game. In the 84th minute Oklahoma City's McMahon delivered a shot towards the Lindsey Wilson goal from well outside the box that trickled past the Blue Raider defense and stopped its roll right on the line in front of the goal. Another inch and the score would have been tied at two goals each in the game's final minutes, instead the Blue Raiders kicked the ball off the line and preserved the second-round win. Blue Raider senior keeper Jordan Morrison went the distance in goal and collected three saves, while Bechtold finished with three saves as well. Oklahoma City outshot Lindsey Wilson 12-10, while both team's managed five attempts on goal. The Blue Raiders advance to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Championship where they will face either eighth seeded Concordia (Portland, OR) University or ninth seeded Spring Arbor (Spring Arbor, MI) University who play at 6:30pmCT on Tuesday.Lindsey Wilson's quarterfinal matchup is set to begin at 6:30pmCT, on Wednesday.
