Mark Hale: For staying dry, but why not settle issue with vote? He's outspoken - against - alcoholic beverages, sold legally or otherwise. He calls for amicable discussion: 'We shouldn't get angry with each other on this issue.' He cites instances in area where economic booms haven't, he says, followed legal sales. By Mark Hale Personal commentary Ed, You had to know that I would eventually have to speak my peace. As hard as I tried to not send a response, I just couldn't keep reading all the stuff about the alcohol debate with out spouting off myself. Everyone that reads CM knows where I stand on the issue, but it seems to me that some on both sides are getting a bit angry about the issue. Our opinions are just that, "ours". We shouldn't get angry with each other on this issue. Why can't we settle the problem with a vote? It may be too late for this upcoming election but we'll have another one next year. Let's put it to a vote and be done with it. I would like to note that since Danville went wet they have not exploded with new eating establishments, but they are getting a new Liquor Barn at the center of the "strip" (old K Mart). Campbellsville has gotten one new restaurant since they went moist. Glasgow has not exploded either. I like the suggestion of a Cracker Barrel but I understand Glasgow is going to be getting one of those and they don't serve alcohol. I wonder just how someone who does not serve the sauce has come to be such a popular place to eat across the country. Uhhh, could it be???? good food, a nice atmosphere for the whole family, at a reasonable price? Noooo they must be spiking the lemonade or sweet tea. My point is booze will not make our county explode into a thriving metropolis. Those of you who want it, get it. And those of us who don't want it don't. Let's put it to a vote and put it to rest. Thanks for all you do. - MARK HALE This story was posted on 2011-10-14 18:10:12
