Persson's Goals lift LW Women's Soccer to 3-0 win

GEORGETOWN, KY - Lindsey Wilson College junior Mia Persson scored twice for the No. 1-ranked Blue Raiders in a 3-0 win over host Georgetown (KY) College.



With the win, Lindsey Wilson (8-0-1, 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference) moves into sole possession of first place in the MSC. Georgetown falls to 5-4-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

After a scoreless first half, Persson, a junior from Sjobo, Sweden, ignited the Blue Raider offense with a pair of goals within 23 seconds of one another.

Persson put the Blue Raiders in front 1-0 with a header past Georgetown goalkeeper and reigning MSC Defensive Player of the Week Cathie Shaver at the 57:18 mark. Lindsey Wilson senior Heini Metsola set up the go-ahead goal with her first assist of the season.

Persson doubled the Lindsey Wilson lead at the 57:41 mark with a finish to Shaver's left from just inside the penalty area. The goal is Persson's team-leading fifth of the season.

Lindsey Wilson, who out-shot the Tigers 19-9 for the match, added a third goal in the 65th minute when junior Hanna Jonsson, Lund, Sweden, scored off an Ida Gregersen assist to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson senior goalkeeper Jordan Morrison picked up the shutout win while collecting eight saves. Shaver finished the match allowing three goals and seven saves. -CHRIS WELLS.
