James Williamson MOH recipent from Columbia KY

Adair County history has now has two native sons with the nation's highest military award, the Congressional Medal of Honor, SGT Dakota Meyer and BG James A. Williamson

Hal Roach writes:
James Williamson was a Medal of Honor recipient who was born in Columbia in 1829. When he was fifteen, he and his family moved to Iowa. He received his Medal of Honor for his actions as a Colonel and CO of the 4th Iowa at the Battle of Chickasaw Bluffs. He was wounded during the battle. (He had been wounded once before) His MOH citation reads:"Led his regiment against a superior force, strongly entrenched, and held his ground when all support had been withdrawn"

Awarded January 17, 1895.

He was a Major General at the end of the war.
