'Crosstown Rivals' CU and LWC volleyball players dominate MSC

LOUISVILLE, KY - Campbellsville Universitys Shannon Cahill is the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending September 11, conference officials announced on Monday. In addition to her player of the week honors, Cahill is the MSC Hitter of the Week. Lindsey Wilson Colleges Andrea Taylor and Georgetown Colleges Lindsey Wise also earns weekly conference honors for their play last week. Taylor is the MSC Setter of the Week while Wise is the MSC Libero of the Week.



Cahill averaged four kills per game and amassed a .403 attacking percentage while helping the Tigers to a 4-1 week. The Louisville senior outside hitter recorded double digit kills in four of her five matches, including 17 kills to help beat previously unbeaten Lindsey Wilson.

Cahill added 21 kills in the Tigers lone loss - a 3-2 setback to Trevecca Nazarene (TN) University. She finished the week adding 50 digs and three service aces.

This season, Cahill is averaging 3.78 kills per game and has a .284 attacking percentage.

Campbellsville is 4-2 this season and 1-0 in the MSC West Division.

Lindsey Wilson Colleges Andrea Taylor and Georgetown Colleges Lindsey Wise also earns weekly conference honors for their play last week. Taylor is the MSC Setter of the Week while Wise is the MSC Libero of the Week.

The weekly award is the first of the season for Cahill and Wise. Taylor was the MSC Player and Setter of the Week last week.

Taylor averaged 11.8 assists per game while leading the Blue Raiders to a 5-1 week. The Louisville junior setter recorded 40 or more assists in three matches and added 39 assists in a pair of matches. Taylor recorded a double-double - 41 assists and 11 digs - in Lindsey Wilsons 3-0 sweep of University of the Cumberlands.

Taylor finished with a week-high 44 assists in Lindsey Wilsons sweep of Union (TN) University at the Cumberland University Classic. For the week, Taylor added 33 digs and nine service aces.

This season, she leads the MSC and ranks seventh in the NAIA in assists per game (11.2).

Lindsey Wilson is 12-1 overall and 1-1 in the MSC West Division

Wise averaged 5.53 digs per game and didnt commit a receiving error en route to helping the Tigers to a perfect 5-0 week. The Louisville junior libero recorded double digit digs in all but one match during last weeks play.

In the Tigers win over Shorter, Wise recorded a career-high 35 digs. She added 20 digs in wins over St. Catharine (KY) College and Union (KY) College. She added six service aces to her weekly totals.

This season, Wise is averaging 4.33 digs per game and has 14 service aces.

Georgetown is 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the MSC West Division. -CHRIS MEGGINSON

LW, CU dominate MSC Volleyball Players of the Week

Shannon Cahill, Campbellsville University, and Andrea Taylor, Lindsey Wilson College dominated the Mid South Conference Volleyball Players of the Week list, released September 12, 2011, following a week of domination on September 5 by Taylor and teammate Rachel Anderson of Lindsey Wilson. Quite a feat for the "cross-town" rivals, located just 20 miles apart in the South Central Kentucky community.
