Adair Circuit Court grand jury returns murder indictment Arraignment has been set for 1pmCT, Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in Adair Circuit Court for 43 year old Jeffrey D. McGaha, indicted for murder in the June 7, 2011 death of Michael Earl Cowan. The indictment reads: "The Grand Jury of Adair County, KY, charges: that on or about the 7th day of June, 2011, and before the finding of the indictment herein, in Adair County, Kentucky, the above-named defendant(s): Committed the offense of Murder, when, with the intent to cause the death of Michael Earl Cowan, he caused the death of Michael Earl Cowan by striking Michael Earl Cowan with an automobile and shooting Michael Earl Cowan with a shotgun, or under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death to another person or persons and thereby caused the death of Michael earl Cowan by striking Michael Earl Cowan with an automobile and shooting Michael Earl Cowan with a shotgun, against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky."The True Bill was signed by Ashley Burton, foreperson. State Police Detective Russell Decker appeared before Grand Jury. The indictment was filed in open court on July 19, 2011. Jeffrey D. McGaha is held in Adair County Regional Jail in Columbia.
