Campbellsville, KY firm creating ornament for Mt. Vernon gift shop Product will be for George Washington Distillery, similar to ornaments already being done for Kentucky distilleries. Exciting news for South Central Kentucky crafts industry: Buyers are switching to exclusively American made products wherever possible, opening new opportunities for Kentuckians See earlier story: K & M Crafts, Campbellsville, KY at Buyers Market of American Crafts By Jordan Stapp Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how it went (at the Baltimore Crafts show). Although wedid get to talk to the Smithsonian representatives, they didn't place anorder. However, the gift shop at Mount Vernon want us to create an ornamentfor the new George Washington Distillery that they recently openedup -similar to what we currently make for a few kentucky distilleries. That's pretty exciting. Sales were about the same as last yea; however, there was a lot ofinterest and potential orders if we can hammer out some custom designs forvarious institutions and museums. Three gift shop buyers, all from the Eastcoast, one from NYC are switching over to carrying exclusively Americanmade products whenever possible, and when not, they purchase from WesternEuropean countries, attempting to avoid the Asian suppliers like theplague. We're gearing up, rushing to get enough inventory for the National GuardVolunteer show in Louisville that starts Sunday. The KY Nat'l Guard askedus to be there and sell our wares as a means of all the differentstates/volunteers/members coming in to have at least a "taste" of some ofKY. I believe they'll have bourbon chocolatiers and other ky artist/craftspeople there as well. -Jordan Stapp This story was posted on 2011-07-20 08:39:52
