CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Former LSU forward Dennis Harris signed Tuesday to play men's basketball at Campbellsville University, CU head coach Keith Adkins announced Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

Harris, who has already enrolled at Campbellsville, comes to the Tigers from Arkansas State University where he attended school for the spring semester. The 6-foot-11, 195-pound forward will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is the tallest recruit in Adkins' 11 years as CU's head coach. He is also the first former SEC starter signed by Adkins and assistant coach Bryan Milburn.

"There is the obvious that comes with Dennis Harris, a guy that as a redshirt freshman was a part time starter in the SEC. That alone indicates that his talent level is very high," Adkins said. "At 6-11, he's going to surprise a lot of people with his skill set. At that height, he has the skill level of a three-man with great ball handing and shoots the ball with great range."

Harris, a native of Jonesboro, GA, signed with LSU in 2008 and served his first season as a redshirt. In 2009-10, he started in nine games and appeared in 29 games, missing two due to injury. He scored in double figures on four occasions, including three times in SEC play, with his high being a 12-point performance off the bench in the SEC opener against the University of Alabama. He posted nine points and four assists in a NIT Tip-off quarterfinal win against Western Kentucky University.

After the successful redshirt freshman season, Harris was plagued with injury in the fall of 2010, playing in only four games at LSU. He chose to leave LSU at Christmas break and enrolled at Arkansas State in the spring of 2011 with hopes to play for former LSU coach John Brady, who recruited Harris to Baton Rouge, LA.

Harris becomes the third Campbellsville signee for 2011-12 over the height of 6-foot-7, joining fellow NCAA Division I transfer Jordan Myers (6-8) and JUCO transfer Rilwan Bakare (6-7). He will also join returning post players Jonas Bohm (6-9) and Kevin Bobson (6-5).

"In a typical recruiting class, you'd need him to be a low post guy and provide an inside presence. But because of his ability, along with the fact of what we've signed and have returning, it should allow us to move Dennis around and use that skill set in a way that hopefully will be tough for opponents to match up with," Adkins said. "We're obviously excited about having him as a member of our program. I think he's a great fit for us. We provide him with the opportunity to stand out and get the experience he needs on the floor."

Prior to LSU, Harris was a 2008 McDonald's All-America nominee and earned MCP honors for his play in the Class 5A, Region 4 tournament in Georgia. He averaged 21.5 points per game, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots from the small forward position at Mundy's Mills High School in Jonesboro, GA. He helped lead his high school team to the Final 16 as a junior and senior in 2007 and 2008.

Harris is the sixth signed recruit for the 2011-12 Campbellsville recruiting class.
